Historic Landscape: Polesworth Abbey

The Benedictine Polesworth Abbey was founded in 827 deep in the Forest of Arden. Today it flourishes as the parish church of Polesworth with Birchmoor. We were first commissioned in 2005 to prepare a Historic Landscape Survey and Outline Restoration Management Plan. It looked at the restoration of the former abbey landscape, together with the integration of new visitor facilities, a new parsonage and a sensory garden. The plan includes the restoration of the medieval gatehouse and an extension of the churchyard.

The gatehouse and driveway have recently been completed with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The sensory garden was completed in 2007. Work is now underway on the preparation of a Conservation Management Plan for the new visitor facilities and new parsonage.
